Cosmetic Surgery

Many of us would shy away at the mention of cosmetic surgery. Why go under the knife when you can look beautiful naturally, you'd ask. Well, when you look good, you feel good. When you feel good, you exude an aura of confidence. So why not? For the uninitiated, cosmetic surgery is a part of plastic surgery and is defined as surgery done to enhance the aesthetic appearance of a person. The key goals in cosmetic surgery are improving aesthetic appeal, symmetry and proportion. Every person is unique, and so the technique used in cosmetic surgery needs to be tailored to the specific needs of every person, which makes it furthermore imperative for cosmetic surgeons to have extensive surgical experience.

The Cosmetic Surgery department at A+ MediArt is headed by none other than Dr. Anup Dhir, a qualified Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeon who has had accredited postgraduate training in this field. He has more than 30 years of experience in India and abroad and has innumerable satisfied patients. He is a member of several prestigious organizations and is well known, both nationally and internationally. With him, you can be rest assured that your body is in safe and expert hands. Under the ambit of cosmetic surgery, A+ Mediart provides:

Body Contouring Surgery You work hard to lose all that fat, and yet your skin still hangs loose at ends? Not only does it not look good, there are possibilities that this can also lead to hygiene problems and skin rashes. Body contouring surgery removes the excess sagging skin, while improving the shape of the underlying support tissue. Any remaining pockets of fat can also be removed at the same time using liposuction technique. This helps enhance your weight loss program to acquire a shapely body.

Buttock Reshaping A perfect buttock is a rarity they say. But it need not be. A symbol of youth, health and sensuality, a shapely buttock accentuates your figure, and makes you feel confident in whatever you wear.

Age, gravity, heredity and weight fluctuations are some of the factors that prevent you from having the perfect backside that you desire. This surgical procedure improves and enhances the shape, size and appearance of buttocks. Large buttocks can be made smaller with liposuction to make the body proportionate. And small-sized buttocks can be augmented with implants or fat grafting to achieve a fuller and rounder shape. Sagging buttocks can also be lifted and reshaped by removing the excess skin and fat and pulling the skin and tissue together in a new procedure called Butt Lift.

Female Genital Surgery Well it may sound taboo, but you'll find that there is a large section of the population opting for genital surgery. Be it for aesthetic value or better sexual performance, female genital surgery has become quite common. Aesthetic surgery of the female genitalia, or 'designer vaginas', includes a number of surgical procedures designed to improve their appearance. Genital aesthetic surgery is delicate and precise surgery and should be undertaken by trained and experienced surgeons.

The most commonly requested procedures are labial reduction ('Labiaplasty') and vaginal tightening ('Vaginaplasty') operations.
Labial reduction (Labiaplasty): We may have, at some point in time, attributed our discomfort with bike riding, or wearing tight undergarments to various reasons. But not many of us are aware that a large labia minora (the inner lips of the vagina) could be the reason for it. Labiaplasty includes a number of operations designed to decrease the size and degree of protuberance of the labia minora. Some may even seek this procedure to aesthetically improve the appearance of their genitalia.
Vaginal tightening (Vaginoplasty or Vaginal Rejuvenation): Contrary to popular belief, having less sex will not keep your vagina tighter. As with every other part of our body, the vagina has muscles that contract and relax when needed. With age, and childbirth, the natural elasticity of the vagina gets reduced. As a result, you may find that sex is less satisfying for you or your partner. Vaginoplasty is surgery done to tighten the inner lining of the vagina and vaginal opening. This improves the sexual experience of both partners. It can be done either by placing sutures at the opening of the vagina or by tightening the muscles of the posterior vaginal wall.
Hymen Reconstruction (Hymemoplasty): Hymen tear could happen during your first sexual encounter, or even because of strenuous physical activities like horse riding etc. The hymen is a thin membrane of skin that partially covers the vaginal opening. Hymemoplasty is the surgical restoration of the hymen.

Leucoderma Surgery There is still a lot of social stigma surrounding Vitiligo. It's a common condition where white patches develop on the skin due to loss of pigment from the affected areas of the skin. In an advanced stage, most of the body skin can lose its pigmentation. At A+ Mediart, we follow two ways for treatment listed as under:
Melanocyte Transplant A technique that involves grafting of melanocyte cell suspension. Skin from an unaffected area is harvested and the layers separated by incubating them with an enzyme called Trypsin. Autologous cells (i.e. cells or tissues obtained from the same individual) epidermal cell suspensions allow large areas to be treated in one session using a small donor graft. What you get is excellent colour matching.
Skin Grafting This is a traditional technique in which normal skin is used as donor tissue and then grafts are surgically transplanted on the areas affected by Vitiligo. The new skin grafts start producing pigment. The melanocytes in the normal transplanted skin continue to produce melanin thus providing pigment to darken the skin.

Liposuction Surgery Those of us on the healthier side, may have had the charitable idea of donating some of excess fat to those on the lean side. Such thoughts may arise when even your strict diet and continuous exercise are not sufficient enough to do away with the surplus fat. This is where Liposuction comes to the rescue. It is a procedure to remove localized areas of stubborn fat. It is not a weight loss technique, but is used for body contouring, improving the shape and making the body more proportionate. It is most commonly used to treat tummy, arms, thighs, chin and buttocks. Our surgeons will recommend the tumescent technique, superficial liposculpture, Ultrasound-Assisted Lipoplasty (UAL) or other variations of conventional liposuction depending on the specific needs of the patient and the surgeon's preferred methods of treatment.

Following surgery, you may be advised to wear snug dressing or garments, possibly up to several weeks, to promote skin shrinkage and to minimize swelling and skin discolouration. If you have had surgery below the waist, you may be suggested to wear a long-legged girdle for a few weeks as you resume your normal routine.
VASER Liposuction VASER (Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance) is the trade name for an ultrasound-assisted liposuction system. During VASER liposuction procedure, sound waves transmitted through small probes is used to emulsify targeted fat cells. The liquefied fat is sucked out through thin cannulas (tubes). VASER Liposuction has the advantages of lower blood loss & improved skin retraction.

Stem Cell Fat Grafting  They say charity begins at home. In the case of stem cell fat grafting, we can say that charity begins with oneself. Fat grafting, also called fat transfer, is often used to transfer a portion of fat from one area of your body to another, to increase the size and volume of fat in a second area. By removing the fat from a predetermined area, most commonly the thighs, waist, buttocks or stomach, we then reintroduce it to the body in the desired spot, usually the breasts or face.
This technique can be used not only for breast augmentation but also for breast reconstruction after partial mastectomy. It can also be used for facial rejuvenation, adding volume to sagging areas of the face and neck, reducing wrinkles and improving tone and texture of the skin.

Thigh Lift Surgery Admit it. There have been times when you looked at your thighs and wondered where all that fat came from. Thighs are a problem part of the body where excess fat tends to accumulate. It makes our skin prone to sagging, even after excess weight is lost, causing our thighs to look rather unsightly. This can be improved significantly with thigh lift surgery, which is part of body contouring.

Body contouring surgery involves removing the excess skin and tightening and re-draping the remaining over the body and suturing it in place. The incision is usually made along the inguinal creases, so that there are no scars on the legs. If any pockets of fat are remaining, they can be removed at the same time using liposuction technique.

Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) Sometimes, relentless exercise and countless hours spent at the gym seem vain when we are unable to get that perfect 'flat tummy' that we've been vying for. While it is said that the best way to change your body for the better is with diet and exercise, it doesn't work for everyone. In some individuals, the localised deposits of fat in the abdominal region combined with muscle laxity can make a "flat tummy" very difficult to achieve. In women this becomes all the more difficult if stretched and loose skin appears following pregnancy.

Tummy tuck is done to remove the excess, lax skin from the area, and tighten the remaining to smooth out the abdomen. The surgeon works through a low abdominal incision. Because sagging skin will be pulled down over the abdomen before it is removed, it may be necessary to release the navel from its surrounding skin and bring it out through a new skin opening. Resulting scars across the pubic area and around the navel are permanent but flatten and lighten in colour over time.

Sometimes, abdominoplasty may even be combined with liposuction to achieve the best result. In some instances, when skin laxity and muscle weakness are limited to the area below the navel, a modified abdominoplasty may be recommended.

Breast Enlargement For centuries, breasts have been a symbol of femininity. The more well endowed you are, the better. A popular procedure today, breast augmentation is done to increase the size and/or improve the shape of the breasts using breast implants or fillers. Fat taken from one part of the body can be used as a filler for breast augmentation. During consultation, your surgeon will discuss about the type and size of the implant to be used. The size will depend upon your expectations and what can be achieved surgically. Breast implants are safe and there is no evidence to suggest they cause breast cancer or other diseases.

Breast Lift / Reduction Sagging breasts tend to deter a woman's confidence. Pregnancy, significant weight loss and ageing may cause breasts to lose their shape and firmness, making them sag. Breast lift surgery is done to support and lift sagging breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue. A breast lift can rejuvenate your figure giving you a more youthful look. It also helps in reducing the discomfort associated with very large breasts.

The surgery is done under general anesthesia. Incisions are made and excess breast and fatty tissue is removed. Sometimes the breast may need to be lifted and the position of the areola and nipple improved. This is especially needed when the breasts are sagging because of age or excessive weight loss. Liposuction may be used to improve shape.

After this procedure is done you will need to stay in hospital for a couple of days. Initially you will be instructed to wear a support bra till the swelling has resolved. Avoid vigorous exercise and lifting heavy weights for the duration advised by your surgeon. You may need to stay off work for about two weeks. The feeling of decreased sensation in nipples is temporary but may take weeks or months to resolve. Some incision lines are visible on the breast surface but in most cases will fade and significantly improve over time. The results of breast reduction are immediately visible and the patient satisfaction generally improves with time.

Male Breast Reduction Male breasts are quite a common phenomenon. Those of us who have it, would resort to wearing loose garments to avoid embarrassment and being picked on. Gynaecomastia is a medical term that comes from the Greek word for 'Women like breasts' which occurs due to deposition of excessive fat tissue around the breasts in men during puberty or after excessive weight gain. It can be corrected surgically by removing the excess fat and glandular tissue using liposuction & excision. Sometimes the overlying skin may need to be tightened as well. The surgery can be done either under local or general anaesthetic. The surgery may take 1-2 hours depending upon the amount of fat to be removed. If done under a general anaesthetic, you may need to stay in hospital for one night.

Minimally Invasive Gynaecomastia surgery - The 'Light Pull-Through Procedure' is the latest and a less invasive way of doing this surgery. In this, the incision through which the fat and glandular tissue is pulled out is smaller. The advantage of this procedure is that there are fewer scars, and post surgery no drains will have to be left. This will lead to quicker healing and minimally visible scars.

Chin Enlargement If you're not happy with your profile, or are of the opinion that your facial structure is not balanced, you might find your answer in your chin itself. Chin implants are used to build a better profile. Mentoplasty refers to plastic surgery procedures to reshape the chin. It comes from the Latin word 'Mentum', which means chin, and the Greek verb 'Plassein', which means "to form" or "to shape." In this procedure, the chin is enhanced with an implant or surgery on the bone or by fat injection. As the size of the chin may magnify or minimize the perceived size of the nose, many times a plastic surgeon may recommend chin surgery to a patient having Rhinoplasty in order to achieve facial proportion. This surgery can be done under local or general anaesthesia and patient is usually allowed home the same day.

Eyelid surgery / Blepharoplasty You sleep for eight hours as recommended, and yet when you wake up, you still look tired. And you are left wondering why. Well, as we age, the tone and shape of our eyelids can loosen and sag. Heredity and sun exposure also contribute to this process. This excess, puffy or lax skin can make you appear more tired or older than you are.

Eyelid surgery or Blepharoplasty can give the eyes a more youthful look by removing excess skin, bulging fat, and lax muscle from the upper or lower eyelids. If the sagging upper eyelid skin obstructs peripheral vision, Blepharoplasty may eliminate the obstruction and improve the visual field.

Face Lifts There's nothing wrong in wanting to look younger. As we age, wrinkles appear and our skin texture also changes. A face lift can do wonders to hide away all those years. A face-lift (Rhytidectomy) is a cosmetic surgical procedure to improve the look of your face and neck. During a face-lift, facial soft tissues are lifted, excess skin is removed and skin is draped back over the newly repositioned contours. A neck lift (Platysmaplasty) is often done as part of a face-lift.

Your bone structure, heredity and skin texture all play a role in how many "years" a facelift can "remove" and, to some extent, influence how long will it last. Patients who do not have a significant amount of excess skin sometimes may be candidates for an endoscopic facelift. Using an endoscope, the plastic surgeon can smooth the skin and tighten the muscles through very small incisions that are easily concealed. Depending on which areas of the face and neck require correction, incisions may be placed in the lower eyelid, upper gum line, beneath the chin or behind the ears.

Fat Injection Another effective way to reduce wrinkles or bring down acne scarring is by way of fat injections. By injecting fat harvested from your own body, cosmetic surgeons at A+ MediArt enhance facial fullness, fill deep creases, soften facial creases and wrinkles, plump lips and build up shallow contours, thus giving you a more youthful appearance.
Fat is harvested or removed from the chosen site with a cannula, under local anaesthesia. The advantage of using fat as filler is that it is natural, harvested from your own body and is thus less likely to cause allergic reactions.

Forehead / Brow Lift Sagging in the skin of the forehead, upper eyelids or eyebrows even. A brow lift or forehead lift is all you need. By reversing the effects of gravity and tightening the soft tissues of the forehead, a brow lift gives a more youthful contour. As one ages, it is common for the brow to assume a flat or horizontal position. If a sagging brow inhibits your facial expression, a brow lift is a time-tested method for rejuvenating the upper third of your face.

This surgery is performed under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia. Incisions are placed behind the hairline above the ear and continue over the top of the head. In some cases, incisions may be placed in front of the hairline.  Endoscopic forehead lift is another advancement, which requires several very small incisions at or within the hairline instead of the longer incision used for a conventional forehead lift.

Hair Transplantation Receding hairlines have often been a cause of worry for young men and less commonly women. The causes of hairloss include stress, chronic illness, malnutrition, medical treatments like chemotherapy or genetic predisposition. Hair transplantation surgery can help men and women suffering from baldness or thinning hair.
In men, the most common condition leading to hair loss is "Male Pattern Baldness or Alopecia Androgenetica. This affects only the front & top "U" shaped central area of scalp. Hair transplantation surgery involves transferring the hair follicles from the donor area on the back and the side of the head, which has genetically strong hair. Hair roots (follicles/ follicular units) of this permanent hair are taken and grafted on to the bald area.
This can be done by the two popular methods
Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) The FUT hair transplantation is surgery that involves removing a narrow strip of hair-bearing scalp from the back of the head and using it to fill an area with thin or no hair.
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) The FUE or Follicular Unit Extraction is a minimally invasive hair transplantation technique in which follicular unit grafts (hair follicles) are individually removed from the patient's donor area and then individually transplanted to the recipient area.

Nose Job (Rhinoplasty) You may not like the shape of your nose or it may have changed with trauma. It is your nose that is the central element of your face structure, and a well shaped nose can do wonders to your appearance, making you look more pleasant and regal. One of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures worldwide, Rhinoplasty is usually performed to enhance the appearance or reconstruct the nose.

During rhinoplasty, the nasal cartilages and bones are modified, or tissue is added, to improve the visual appeal of the nose. Rhinoplasty is also frequently performed to repair nasal fractures. When rhinoplasty is used to repair nasal fractures, the goal is to restore pre-injury appearance of the nose.
Rhinoplasty can be done by the open or closed technique. This will depend on where the incisions are made. The surgeon will follow the technique, which he feels would be best suitable for you.

Protruding Ears (Otoplasty) You would be well versed with being the odd one out, if you are endowed with large ears. Ears are an integral part of your facial appearance. Otoplasty can improve the shape or positioning of your ears if they are large in proportion to your other features or protrude more than normal. It also helps children avoid bullying and potential psychological trauma. Surgery is possible at any age, but is often recommended for children as they near total ear development at age five or six.
The ears are positioned closer to the head by reshaping the cartilage (supporting tissue). This is usually accomplished through incisions placed behind the ears so that subsequent scars will be concealed in a natural skin crease.

Dermabrasion Chemical Peels Now, who would have known that even laughing has side effects. Over a period of time, fine lines and wrinkles are formed around the mouth and the eyes and on the forehead and cheek areas. These may be improved with a wide range of treatments.

Chemical peels are solutions applied to the face and neck to remove the superficial and dead layers or the skin. This helps to smoothen and revitalize the skin. Dermabrasion is a procedure in which a high-speed rotary wheel, similar to fine-grained sandpaper, is used to abrade and smoothen the skin. It is recommended for extensive sun damage, wrinkling or pockmarks.
Skin resurfacing using a variety of lasers is another popular technique to reduce wrinkles, improve skin texture and achieve some degree of skin tightening.
